Firstly Raindance deserves a massive commendation for their blog for filmmakers, espeacially in this instance for their article on the world's top short film festivals (http://www.raindance.org/worlds-top-short-film-festivals/). As a starting point it has saved me a lot of hair pulling, internet trolling and coffee.

I will be updating this post as we submit to each festival with how we got on and any other hidden gems that we discover on the way but for now here are the ones that we have decided to go with:

London Short Film Festival, UK - http://shortfilms.org.uk/

Leeds International Film Festival, UK - http://www.leedsfilm.com/

Foyle Film Festival, NORTHERN IRELAND - http://www.foylefilmfestival.org/

Different festivals have different requirements for what they want you to submit, in what format, by which platform and any premiere requirements so it is always worth bearing in mind that the more time you allow for your research the better. For instance we decided to broaden our market by having the option of French subtitles.

The main platform we will be using to upload/ submit our film to these festivals is withoutabox as the majority of competitions now use it. Other good ones are Short Film Depot, Flock, and Reelport. This was another advantage we found of uploading to vimeo as it seems to be a recognised format across the board.
